NIS 2
NIS2, the EU's updated network and information security directive, now covers medium and large manufacturers in sectors such as medical devices, electronics, machinery, vehicles, chemicals and industrial food production, where they carry out activities in the EU. That means formal obligations around cybersecurity risk management, supplier due diligence, incident reporting and operational resilience, and management bodies can be held liable. Maximum fines are at least €7M or 1.4% of worldwide turnover for important entities and €10M or 2% for essential entities such as large pharmaceutical manufacturers, whichever is higher in each case (Article 34 of NIS2).
